Since 2016, President Muhammadu Buhair has always travelled to the United Kingdom for medical care.
Interestingly, the cost implications of his medical care, presumably mind boggling, has always been kept a top secret by the presidency.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu had at the inauguration and handing over of completed projects to the management of the Alex Ekuweme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki recently adviced Nigerians not to travel abroad anymore to seek medical care.
Dr. Onu repesented the President at the occasion.
“Nigerians have suffered so much going abroad for medical treatment. This is not good for us and it must stop because we can’t afford it again”, the Minister had said.
A cross section of Nigerians opine that it shall be difficult to take the advice of the President, insisting that leadership is by example.
Considering the sorry state of health care delivery in the country, millions of Nigerians have expressed doubts if the present administration in the country has its citizens in mind.
Sadly, mediocrity has become a major challenges at all levels of government in this dispensation.
The inadequate supply of medical doctors and poor or substandard health care facilities has actually puncutured the President's advice, even as the 2020 Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) is N44.50 billion. That of 2019 was N51.22 billion.
Is there hope for millions of Nigerians ?
