The clampdown on commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders in Lagos state is ongoing with the aid of armed policemen who are supposed to protect lives and property.
Expectedly, a sizable number of the electorate have now resorted to walking long distances to meet up with the demands of daily living.
A considerable number of Nigerians insist that the action of the Lagos state Government is an overt attack on poor Nigerians, who are already impoverished by the polices of government, particularly resident in the state and other states of the federation.
Worried Nigerians suggest that the indication is that the votes of eligible Nigerians no longer count in elections from the 2019 general elections.
Curiously and quite unfortunately, these category of Nigerians, the state Government’s action shall affect directly and indirectly, shall have no option but to return to their various places of origin and places where the state Governments pilot the steering of governance with human face, even though the feeling is that the powers that be are relocating trouble makers to peaceful states.
In another breadth, the Lagos state Government’s action shall result in various challenges for neighboring states, associated with the influx of these poor Nigerians. The message is that Government does not reckon with poor Nigerians anymore.
Interestingly, the Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who was appointed by the Powers that Be, Babachir Lawal, removed from office due to the 500 million Naira Grass Cutting Scandal, now recommends a one time Governor of Lagos state as a suitable replacement for the present occupant of the nation’s number one seat, even though the occupant is yet to convince the electorate beyond reasonable doubt that all is well.
Of course it is no longer news that the 2019 general elections in that state and almost all the states in Nigeria were neither free, fair nor credible.
Sadly, the mindset of several political office holders, by their actions and by proxies, are not compatible with good governance and sustainable development
