The 1.7 Trillion Naira that has been spent on the Electricity Distribution Companies(DISCO) in the last three years cannot be justified, considering the fact that the Power sector-DISCOs- are in private hands.
This only confirms Nigeria’s unenviable rating in the 2019 Corruption Index of the Transparency International.
Interestingly, privileged Nigerians of which political office holders form a significant number, will never be bothered if eventually the electricity tariffs are jerked up, since they have unhindered access to the country’s safe box. That is why the major actors in Nigeria’s version of Democracy are very reluctant to make a public declaration of their assets.
Nigerians are very disappointed in the attitude, utterances and behavior of key players in the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, to the extent that the insinuation,is now that those who are supposed to safeguard the interest of the people are playing out a well planned out script, which obviously shall not at the end of the day, be for the benefit of the overall good.
