Nigerians are miffed by the decision of the Federal Government to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) and that of the privately-owned Electricity Distribution Companies(DISCO) to increase electricity tariffs.
This decision varies with the claims by the government that it has spent 30.5 billion Naira to curtail the coronavirus pandemic between the months of April and July. This has become an issue of debate among Nigerians, considering the their harrowing experiences while the lockdown lasted.
This is coming at a time when accountable leaders of responsible countries of the world have continued to dish out palliative to cushion the harsh effects of the coronavirus pandemic, while Nigerians are contending with the economic hardships brought about by the increase in the Value Added Tax(VAT), stamp duties, the pump price of PMS and electricity tariffs among others.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during his tenure, successfully ensured that Nigeria's international creditors wrote off the country's mind-boggling debts, but today the contrary is the case.
In the face of widespread hunger, poverty, and disillusion, distraught Nigerians have resorted to fervent and ceaseless prayers to God for divine intervention to reverse the precarious situation, while they have since begun to individually, take personal responsibility for their safety, good health, and economic well being.
