With about 96 million Nigerians living in abject poverty, each lawmaker in the National Assembly is set to receive the 2020 model of Toyota Camry worth millions of Naira.
Already the Principal officers of the Legislature have received 48 Toyota Land cruisers to aid their official duties.
Surprisingly, a mind boggling sum of 5.04 Billion Naira has been set aside for these vehicles, while Nigerians continue to have sleepless nights over the insecurity in the land.
In countries with leadership that has human face, exotic cars for lawmakers are not among the priorities of governance.
If political office holders are not ready to make sacrifice that shall impact positively on the lives of impoverished Nigerians, then the light shall take a long time to show at the end of the tunnel.
The country’s foreign reserves continue to deplete as a result of the unhindered extravagance of its leadership, even as the Powers that Be continue to roll out anti-people policies.
Of worry is the fact that Nigeria is the choice destination for the world’s most expensive products.
Unfortunately, the Powers that Be have defended the jumbo pay package of the Legislative arm of government, in order to curry its favor as outrage trails most policies of government.
