Nigeria presently occupies a strategic position among the poorest nations in the world, though the Powers That Be have continued to insist that all is well.
Interestingly, political office holders, public and civil servants are ready to go to any length to preserve their positions and privileges, even to the extent of perpetrating and defending evil, this is evident in several communities, where the culture of lawlessness and criminality holds sway.
Indeed, good leaders focus on producing viable legacies, but the consensus among millions of hungry and poverty stricken Nigerians is that good leaders are seemingly non-existent in this clime.
Curiously, a sizable number of political office holders have promised more than they can deliver, which of course has been the trend among successive administrations.
In 2005, the then President of the Nigeria Labor Congress(NLC) Comrade Adams Oshiomole, who is now the national Chairman of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress(APC) had predicted the situation today, when he said : ''The danger that government faces is mass revolt not coup.... We have gone through military rules and we saw the pains, we saw the agony, we saw abuse of power but the indicator on ground suggests that the masses are losing patience with government''.
Even though oppression and suppression are government's response to the outcry of impoverished Nigerians, the triumph of evil over good is always ephemeral, considering the fact that Nigeria is a country in perpetual custody.
Furthermore incurring questionable debts is tantamount to increasing the suffering of millions of Nigerians, most especially when the relevant arms of government, saddled with the responsibility of curtailing the excesses of the Executive are already in a state of inertia.
Sadly, virtually all the arms-the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, Police-which ought to naturally work towards sustaining Democracy are working assiduously to scuttle it.
